Behind the Floraison Print
Join us as we explore the magnificent world of flowers and botany through art.
Our in-house textile designer, with a passion for floristry and horticulture creates a story of symbolism through painting specific flowering plants.
Humans have used flowers to tell stories for centuries, embedding them with deep symbolism in myths, literature, art, and personal expressions.
In the Victorian era, people used flowers to express emotions they couldn’t say aloud. For example, red roses symbolised love, while white lilies represented purity.
Bouquets could tell entire stories—giving a mix of flowers could express love, sorrow, or even a secret message.
This is called Floriography (The Language of Flowers)

The flowers inside our Floraison print are:
Bleeding Hearts - Latin name Dicentra, is a genus of eight perennial herbaceous flowering plants recognised for their distinctive heart-shaped blooms and finely divided foliage. While most species are native to North America, some are also found in temperate regions of East Asia.
In some cultures, bleeding hearts also represent grace, kindness, and empathy, reflecting their delicate, elegant appearance. Their fleeting blooming period can also symbolise the transience of life and beauty.

Larkspur - Latin name Delphinium native to the Northern Hemisphere and can also be found in the high-altitude regions of tropical Africa.
Larkspur symbolises strong bonds of love, positivity, and an open heart. It is often associated with lightness, joy, and an uplifting spirit due to its tall, delicate blooms. In floriography, larkspur can also represent fickleness or an unpredictable nature.
Different colours carry specific meanings:
- Blue larkspur – dignity, grace, and trust.
- Purple larkspur – royalty, admiration, and charm.
- Pink larkspur – love, romance, and contrition.

Sweetpea - Latin name Lathyrus odoratus is a flowering plant in the Lathyrus genus, belonging to the Fabaceae family. It is native to Sicily, southern Italy, and the Aegean Islands.
Sweet peas represent blissful pleasure, gratitude, and farewell. They are often associated with appreciation and kindness, making them a popular choice for thank-you bouquets. Their delicate fragrance and vibrant colors also represent delicate beauty and joy. Additionally, sweet peas can signify goodbye or departure, making them a meaningful flower for farewells or endings with fond memories. In Victorian flower language (floriography), they were often given to express thanks for a lovely time.
